Two unusual black-glazed pottery jugs attributed to Buckley Pottery, dated 1820, one of squat form and applied with five elaborate handles, both with moulded decoration of flowers and leaves in the medieval manner, inscribed 'W H 1820', some chipping, two handles lacking, 21cm max. (2)
It is possible that the WH relates to William Hancock, who ran one of the major brickworks and potteries in Buckley.

A Sussex pottery slipware money box, dated 1839, the squat globular form decorated in a rich treacle glaze and inscribed 'William Rubie * Rye * July 25 * 1839' in cream slip, together with an earlier Continental lead-glazed butter mould raised on three bun feet, a crack to the money box, 10.3cm high max. (2)
This moneybox was probably a gift to William George Rubie around his 7th birthday. Son of William Rubie (a sailmaker), William George followed his father's profession, married Mary Jane Thomas in St Leonard's on Sea in 1855, is listed as Harbour Master in Rye on the 1891 census and died in October 1897 leaving his effects to his son (also William George and a headmaster of a boarding school) and his daughter.

A rare pair of Pill Pottery (Welsh) figures of a Scotsman and his companion, mid 19th century, each seated and holding a glass, he with a bottle, wearing traditional dress of a Highland infantry regiment including a feathered bonnet and sash, decorated in a rich treacle slip glaze, a repair through her neck, 27cm. (2)
Pill Pottery was located in the Pillgwenlly district of Newport. These figures have come by familial descent from George Jesse Inker, who worked at the pottery in the 1870s. However, given the date, they are possibly more likely to be the work of his father, James Henry Inker, who is listed as a potter in Newport in 1863.
